Never Lose Your Car Keys Again!

Losing your keys can cost you anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours, depending on when and if they can be found. Some of us lose keys frequently and can be sure they are tucked into a couch cushion somewhere or in a pair of pants. And many of us have experienced the moment of panic when you are out of places to look and think those keys may be lost for good this time. In the event that you do lose your keys and need Los Angeles auto locksmith or a car key copy, Authorized Locksmiths has always got you covered. However, if you'd like to try to avoid losing your keys, here's some helpful tips.

1. Make your keys part of your routine

One cause of key loss can be putting your keys in different places all the time. If you can establish a routine where you always put them in one or two places, you can narrow down the places you are looking for them. Here's some ideas for key storage:

  • Put them in a bowl or on a dresser when you walk in the door to your home. That way you don't have a chance to set them somewhere else.
  • Keep them near your wallet, purse or cell phone charger. These are items you use all the time so you aren't likely to lose all of them.
  • Install key hooks in your home, preferably in a cabinet or other hidden space. Have a place in your home where everyone puts their keys so you can not only find yours, but everyone else's.

2. Purchase a high tech tracking device

With so many technological advances, it's easy to find a device or an app that can help at relatively low cost.

  • You can download an app to sync with your phone that can locate the key. There are all kinds of tracking devices on the market right now. You can stick them in your wallet or attach them to your key ring.
  • Buy a whistle key finder. These devices are amazing. When you whistle, the key attachment beeps so that you can find your keys!
  • Link your phone and keys with two way paging. Some devices allow you to press a button on your key chain to find your phone or a button on your phone to find your keychain- so when you have one, you can always find the other.

3. Make your keys more colorful and easy to findcolored keys

In the event that you do lose your keys, try to make them more easy to find by making them bright or even glow-in-the-dark.

  • Use glow-in-the-dark paint, stickers, or attachments. Help yourself find your lost car keys and keychain, even in the dark!
  • Attach bright, colorful or large accessories to your keyring. This will make it more noticeable in case you do lose it.
  • Attach a cork to your keys. In the summer, if you spend a lot of time at the beach or pool, keys can easily get lost in water. A cork or other small floating objects will keep them from being lost forever.
